Some people call Portland Street a place of "Sensual dogs and horses, Mixed dragons and snakes", and regard this street as a red light district that has not been recognized by the Hong Kong government.
In fact, the various shops mixed in the Portland Street include cinemas, record stores, and Western clothing stores, coffin shop, leather shop, roasted pig shop, Taoist hall, grocery store, medicine shop, second-hand book shop, printing shop, piece good shop, building and decoration materials shop, interior design studio, various Chinese and Western restaurants, and schools, etc., so Portland Street should not simply be regarded as a red light district.
Regardless of whether Portland Street is recognized by the Hong Kong government as a red light district, Mong Kok at night has its own unique style.
In addition, this is still an old district, mainly composed of old buildings with decades of history. There are still many neon lights that were popular in the last century here, which are difficult to find in other areas of Hong Kong.
