Appetizers. I like the right one more, it is radish in delicious brown sauce.

Sour & Spicy Soup $58. Its taste is quite different from that in 369 and not so sour, and pepper flavour is stronger. It has quite a lot of tofu strips but has no baby bamboo.

Pan-fried Pork Bun $30. It taste is already very good. One point to be appreciated is the very hot metal pan, which ensures the buns in a warm condition. The bun is juicy and its base is crispy. Such serving condition is the first time we encounter (maybe, it is quite common in fact). But it is still not the best experience ever. It is already very good in all aspects.

Braised Pork & Cuttlefish $88 is one of the signature items
in Lu Lu. Sliced cuttlefish and pork are braised in soya sauce and Zhenjiang vinegar. The cuttlefish when served is very hot, the texture is like boiled egg white. After a while, its texture becomes cuttlefish again. This is quite strange and we admit the cuttlefish is fresh enough. This dish is better to be shared by more persons.

Lu Lu Vegetable Rice (per bowl) $38 is quite oily though all ingredients are of good quality. For such reason, we cannot finish this small bowl.

Free dessert - sweet green bean paste

Lu Lu is not a big restaurant, but it does not like the layout of other restaurants in Hong Kong, the tables are not densely aligned. We only have a leisure and comfortable feeling. Maybe, its high ceiling would be a reason. We have booked in advance and requested a table at the corner. We are really allotted to such table and have complete privacy. Service is good, though some waitresses speak in Mainland style Cantonese.

We order 4 items, namely “Sour & Spicy Soup $58”, “Pan-fried Pork Bun $30”, “Braised Pork & Cuttlefish $88” and “Lu Lu Vegetable Rice (per bowl) $38”. The bill is $257 (average per head $129).

Except the vegetable rice that is quite oily (this is the point I hate most nowadays), other items are good in quality and taste, and of typical Shanghainese style. This is much appreciated and we would have one more restaurant serving delectable Shanghai cuisine at reasonable price thereafter. Of course, there are also quite a lot of expensive cuisines in Lu Lu, like abalone, shark fin and Shanghai crab.

Lu Lu is now having promotion. For bill of every $250, one coupon of $50 would be awarded for next visit within a month. This is equal to 20% discount.

Delipedia
Lu Lu Shanghai Restaurant chain has more than 20 years history in Shanghainese cuisine and has several outlets in Shanghai and Beijing. This is its first branch in Hong Kong. All fresh ingredients are imported from Shanghai. The head chef is also assigned by the main restaurant in Shanghai.

Formerly, Lu Lu Shanghai Restaurant was called Luk Lu Shanghai Restaurant (陸鷺上海菜), named after the boss – Ms. Luk Lu (陸鷺). In these couple of years, the name Luk Lu is changed back to Lu Lu (this is the name in the Mainland), after the renovation of South Pacific Hotel and Luk Lu Shanghai Restaurant. This involves no change of ownership anyway.
