Braised Duck Tongues in Brown Sauce. Duck tongue is fully soaked with brown sauce. It is a tasty Shanghai appetizer.
Hygiene of Tofu and in process of cooking Stinky Bean Curd is more reliable in restaurant.
Fried Rice Cake with Preserved Vegetable. Rice Cake seems to be a must
try in our Shanghai meal, and is always a selection in the dinner. It
is fresh and not oily.
Braised Sea Cucumber with Brown Sauce is not so good / tasty as those
in Guangdong style. Appearance is not attractive as well. It is anyway
an item with zero cholesterol.

Ning Po is an old fashioned Chinese Restaurant in Central. It is a
good place, particularly for foreigners to try traditional Shanghai
cuisine, in view of food originality, taste and decoration.
We have not dined in Ning Po (NP) for a long time. It has been
established for 38 years and is always one of several best Chinese
restaurants in my mind. Interior decoration has not yet been renovated
for several years.
We dine with two friends from abroad this time. It is about 2000 at
night in a weekday, and NP is not full. Customers are mainly salarymen
and OL. We order 7 dishes, the bill is $865 (average per head $216).
Apart
from those with photos, we also order Pan-fried Pork Dumplings 煎窩貼,
Braised Vegetable with Beancurd Sheet 百頁小棠菜, and Chicken &
Wontons Casserol 砂鍋雲吞雞. It seems that the food quality and taste cannot
be maintained at high level, as before. Maybe, we have not ordered those
signature dishes, as we would like to try those not-yet-try dishes this
time. Food taste is really average
. Maybe, next time we have to order those signature dishes, like
Shanghai crab, & Deep Fried Shrimps with Salty Egg Yolk. Service
is average too; this is the typical service level in old-fashioned
Chinese restaurant.
