Soup
of Pig lung and Almond Sauce $120 is a signature dish in Luk Yu. No MSG
has been added to the soup, which is rich in almond flavor. The chopped
pig lung is chewy and soft. When this soup is served to us, J notices that there is almond sauce, which is not J's favorite taste. I
immediately reply whether J needs to add orange juice for better taste.
An old fashioned and cute tooth-stick pack.
Fried Pork in Sweet & Sour Sauce is very tasty. Every aspect seems to have attained the best level.
Braised Grouper is not a too special item. Though it comes with garlic
and mushroom, it becomes a tasty Guangdong dish. The fish is fresh and
there is no smell of fishiness.
Fried Vegetables with Dried Scallop Sauce.
Clay
Pot of Rice with Preserved Duck is a well-timed item in winter. The
rice is not oily and salty. Soy sauce is fantastic. We can still taste
the delicious flavor of preserved duck. Apart from duck, you may
selected chicken with mushroom , or preserved sausage or preserved pork.
Walnut
Sweet Soup $100 (can be divided into 4 small bowls, it would be $30 per
bowl if ordered individually) is not those packed goods bought in the
supermarket. It is grinded, we can sense there are small particulars of
walnut in the sweet soup .
All tablewares are old-fashioned and painted with Luk Yu in Chinese character.

If
there is "Michelin Guide – Hong Kong ", Luk Yu Tea House (LY) must be
included in the list. LY is a restaurant of 74 years history (in 2008)
and 3 storeys. It has Chinese decoration of 50 years ago, including
Chinese calligraphy on the wall, old fans hanging to ceiling, Chinese
style tables and chairs. When you dine in LY, it seems that you enter a
world of oldie (the waiters are mostly over 50 or 60 of age). This
feeling is also
one of the reasons that LY is always crowded for the whole day.
Tourists of various nationalities (holding travel guidebook) having
dinner in LY are a commonplace. Waiters can speck in fluent English and
Mandarin as well . Though their service is not too hospitable , they are quite nice to us, and we have not yet been ill-treated.
Tonight, CEO suggests to dine in Luk Yu, it is of course our pleasure.
In
the menu, the lowest priced items are at a price higher than $100. We
order 3 dishes, soup and dessert; the bill is $980 (average spending
$250). All items ordered are of very high quality , though they may not
be the highest
quality in my experience. This gives us an impression that the chefs
cook dishes of stable and good quality. It is not like some other
restaurants, other than only a handful of signature dishes, all other
items are rubbish. Food materials are surely fresh and of high quality, this is the prerequisite for a restaurant to
maintain prestigious image, like Luk Yu. If time allowed, we would try
its dim sum one day.
