To
visit Wuzhou in Guangxi, apart from eating the famous herbal dessert -
Guilinggao (Turtle Jelly), it is needed to stroll around the Arcade
Street. This Arcade Street has been preserved and is managed by Wuzhou
Government. It is therefore maintained in good condition .

The name of this arcade street is called Dadong Xia Lu. It is a street
with buildings of three to four storeys. It is now in fact a market of
fruits, clothes and daily accessories.

An arcade is a succession of arches, each counterthrusting the next,
supported by columns or piers, or a covered walk enclosed by a line of
such arches on one or both sides.

In warmer or wet climates, exterior arcades provide shelter for pedestrians.

In South China, buildings in the form of arcade are very common. Such
arcade clusters are commonly found in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Shanghai,
Wuzhou, Xiamen, Guangzhou, Jiangmen and Shantou.

Buildings and street can still be maintained and repaired in a neat and orderly manner.

Because of unknown reason, national flags are hung in this portion.

Please play attention to this street lamp, it should have been specially designed and selected.

Special and decent designs and patterns are available on different parts of building.

Window frames are very artistic.

This is a small building, occuping a street number only. But all details are designed to give a complete image.

It is also a place for chat, gathering and to dawdle.

Owing to this construction pattern, this street has a collective name of Arcade Street.
