This "Wing Lai Yuen Sze Chuen Noodles Restaurant" is the original from Diamond Hill.
Dam Dam Noodle (擔擔麵) $17 is the signature dish of Wing Lai Yuen, one adjective “palatable” is sufficient to describe our experience. This bowl of dam dam noodle can be divided into 4 small bowls. There is a balance among peanut butter, sesame and chilli sauces. Considering the noodle texture, we cannot say it is al dente. For Chinese noodle, it is already very good, at least it is not too soft. The noodle should be tastier if it is spicier (this is our mistake not to request beforehand).
Drunken Chicken Wing (醉雞翼) is a low-priced but delectable dish. The chicken wing is frozen food; its meat texture is still good. One complaint is that Fa Dew Wine 花彫酒 is not added in sufficient amount. If the wine taste is stronger, it will become a fantastic chicken wing.
Smoke Fish (燻魚) $22 is not in small portion, though the price is very reasonable. There are about 6 pieces on the plate. There is a well balance of seasonings. The fish is fresh enough at the time it is cooked, resulting that its texture is chewy and the meat is still intact.
Baby Vegetable w/ Cream Sauce is not in small portion. Only the youngest portion of vegetable is selected for this dish. It is also a good combination between vegetable and evaporated milk. The sauce is creamy but not too thick and not salty.
Xiao Long Bao (小籠包) $34 is not good in appearance but is served in hot. It is anyway of good taste and the stuffed pork is quite juicy. It is surely not salty.

I had never tried in its old restaurant in Diamond Hill. Of course, Wing Lai Yuen Sze Chuen Noodles Restaurant (WLY) is a famous restaurant of Chinese cuisine and with long history in Hong Kong. We specially arrange something to happen in Kowloon, for the purpose of dining in WLY. Its interior decoration is a typical local Chinese restaurant. Or you may say it is a style of local Cha Chaan Teng. In view of old fashioned restaurant, like WLY, its hygiene should be above average, there is no special unpleasant smell, the floor is dry and clean. Servers are mainly those ladies and gentlemen of appearance in the last generation (sorry, am I too straightforward?). Very good service manner should not be expected, as usual. But we have not yet been ill treated in our pleasant meal.
We order 5 items (all are basic ones), the bill is $157 (average per head $79). Maybe, we are lucky today, all the items we order are of very high quality and good taste. We are satisfied from the first dish of “smoked fish” till the last “xiao long bao”. Together with the relatively low price, I should inform my blogmates to have a try in WLY. Bear in mind, to make reservation by phone.
