How to save energy in household water heaters?
If you use an older storage-type water heater at home, and the storage water heater is turned on 24 hours a day, it will consume 3.3 kilowatt-hours of electricity every hour, 79.2 kilowatt-hours of electricity in a day, and 2,376 kilowatt-hours of electricity in a month, resulting in high electricity bills.
Former Director of the Observatory, Lam Chiu Ying, shared that storage water heaters should not be left on for long periods of time because storage water heaters will automatically restart when the water temperature drops. Therefore, turning them on 24 hours a day means that the heater keeps heating water for the whole day. At the same time, the instant electric water heater should not be left on all day long, because it consumes electricity every 6 minutes. It is best to turn it on when taking a bath and turn it off after use.
