The entire Hong Kong taxi industry is shamed
One day, a friend had to meet a customer, he took a taxi from Hoi Yuen Road in Kwun Tong to Kung Lok Road in Kwun Tong. It was a very short distance. Since he was in a hurry and didn't want to be late, he took a taxi instead of taking a minibus.
He is a local hongkonger in Kwun Tong and knows that the taxi fare should be a bit more than HK$30.
In the past, he saw in the media that taxi drivers would take detours and deceive tourists, but now he has experienced it himself.
The taxi driver was about 70 years old. He actually took a detour to Po Tat Estate in Sau Mau Ping, almost to the Tseung Kwan O Tunnel. Of course my friend found it strange. He asked the driver, why did he come here? The driver replied that although it was a little further here, it would be a bit more convenient and it would be arrived soon.
After hearing this, the friend fell silent and did not argue anymore.
In fact, he does not care much about money. He just thinks that the driver has to take the normal route and direction, and taking a detour now is a waste of his time.
When he arrived at Kung Lok Road, he told the old driver angrily that he now went around Kwun Tong to get to Kung Lok Road.
The driver replied, the fare is $63.50, so he'll charge my friend $60 only. Anyway, he also doesn't have the change.
My friend was even more angry and wanted to scold him, but he just thought he was an old man and had not done so.
My friend later thought he should scold him to prevent this bad driver from detouring other passengers next time.
Afterwards, my friend were all very angry. Even though he had already got off the taxi, he still felt that he should scold the driver.
Such detours by drivers will obviously affect the image of Hong Kong taxi drivers and give tourists a bad impression.
My friend knows well what the route should be. Giving you such a detour is a waste of time and money. As a professional taxi driver, he should know the shortest and fastest route from Hoi Yuen Road to Kung Lok Road. Now the fare has increased by more than 30 dollars. The price is now more than $60.
My friend described this experience to me, hoping that future passengers would be alert and not let bad taxi drivers affect Hong Kong.
Hong Kong people all hope that more tourists will come to Hong Kong after the covid, but this bad taxi driver does not follow the rules he should follow. he made detours and charged higher. It's really a shame for Hong Kong people and it's affecting the taxi industry in Hong Kong. The reputation of the entire taxi industry has been brought to shame, and the entire society has been affected by them.
He said that if he encounters a taxi driver making detours again, he must write down and take a photo of the time, place and his driving license, get the receipt, and file a complaint against him as a warning and punishment.
********
I have no experience of being detoured by taxi drivers in Hong Kong, but I had the same experience when I was on a business trip in Shanghai.
Originally, we could go from Puxi to Pudong by going through the tunnel, which is very close, but the taxi driver knew that we were not locals, so the taxi driver actually went south from Puxi, onto the Nanpu Bridge, and then counter-clockwise to where we wanted to go in Pudong, bypassing Shanghai half a circle. Later, we took the invoice the driver gave us and complained to the hotel where we were staying. The hotel staff got the invoice, had all the records, and knew the information about our trip from Puxi to Pudong, etc., and made complaint on behalf of us.
On the night of the second day, we were still in Shanghai and before we left, someone actually returned all the fare we paid to us.
Therefore, until now, I have always had a very positive impression of Shanghai's civilization.
