After
we have a bad experience in a restaurant in Shek O, we immediately take
a mini bus to Kuen Fat to continue the second half of our earlier
dinner. We arrive at Kuen Fat at 1830. But only 2 empty tables are left.
We are then allotted a table for 6. In my mind, the food in Kuen Fat is relatively cheap and delicious
. We totally order one soup and 4 dishes, including “today soup
$68”, “Fried broccoli with scallops and tender scallions $60”,
“Braised bean curd with mushroom and Vegetable $48”, “4 treasures in
fish soup $49”, and “Spicy big clams in wine $58”.
Ingredients
of today soup include pork, carrot, coco de mer, and corn. Everybody
likes this soup , its standard is similar to those prepared by our
mothers. No MSG is added to increase its taste, as the taste is already
natural and very good . We are not thirsty thereafter.
Food
size is normally 30% bigger than usual in Kuen Fat. “Fried broccoli
with scallops and tender scallions” is fully contained in a plate of 10
inches. There are more than 15 pieces of scallops. We are satisfied with
the freshness of scallops. Taste is alright, not salty and not greasy.
“Fried
bean curd and mushroom” is a standard Guangdong cuisine. Provided the
taste is not too salty and greasy, it would get a pass. As usual, bean
curd and mushroom are fully placed on the plate. There are also several
pieces of vegetable on the bottom. What we can say is that this dish is value for money. If it is not a bit greasy, it is much better.
The
soup whiteness in “4 treasures in fish soup” is mainly due to shark
bone and fish meat. Besides, there are ginkgo, carrot, mushroom golden,
silky gourd and bean curd sheet. Quality of this dish is out of our
expectation. Ingredients are all healthy items and there is no meat. This completely satisfies
our target of “eating more but should be healthy-oriented”. It is only
$49. We have no more comment except it is “good”.
“Spicy
big clams in wine” is good in appearance. There are totally 10 pieces
of big clam (size of shell is about 3 inches). When it is served to us,
it is very hot and white fume comes out from the spicy soup . We are totally disappointed finally. All clams are full of sands and
are not edible. What we can do is not to order such dish in future.
Food size is really big, we are full even though we have not ordered
rice and noodle. We are satisfied with the service, price and food
quality, except the clams. The bill is $312 only ($52 per head).
