Kee has been a famous congee shop for a long time. Particularly during
lunchtime, the restaurant must be full . There is no decoration in the
shop. The congee base is prepared by boiling lean meat, dried scallop,
pig bone and Thai Fragrant rice, for at least 3 hours . Price of congee
ranges from $20 to $38, depending on the size and ingredients.
We
order fish belly congee ($23), fish backbone congee ($23) and a plate
of fried vermicelli ($5). The bill is $51 (since each congee would have
$3 discount before 12:30 or after 14:30). Congee base is still the soul
of this congee shop and can still maintain its high standard throughout
these years . Fish meat is still fresh no matter whether it is in the
morning, in the afternoon or at night. It is because they request the
fish to be delivered to the shop in different times of a day. In other
congee shops, like Fu Shing Congee and Noodle (G/F, 91 Hennessy Road,
Wanchai, Hong Kong), the fish would no longer be fresh when you visit at
night.
Sang Kee Congee Shop is always my No. 1 choice of
congee. No MSG and cornstarch are added . If you like congee, I would
recommend Sang Kee without reservation.
