Chung
Nam Hoi is a restaurant we frequent. Its vicinity is area like Portland
Street and Shanghai Street, those old buildings and residential area.
The reasons driven us to dine in Chung Nam Hoi are its foods, reasonable
price and to celebrate an old friend’s birthday. Chung Nam Hoi is a
typical local restaurant. If you want to experience the atmosphere of a
local Hong Kong restaurant, it is my recommendation.
We have
ordered a $198 combo set , which includes a big bowl of soup, a steamed
grouper (of course, it is fed and not captured from the sea) and a
standard-sized plate of roasted goose. Besides, we order a bowl of
glutinous rice with preserved meat, White Spotted Rabbitfish in salt and
pepper ($38), a plate of Carbonado (roasted pig meat with skin) and 3
pieces of Shanghai crab (of about 5 teals each). The bill is $459
(average per head is $153).
The only complaint is that there are
only 7 tails of fish in “White Spotted Rabbitfish in salt and pepper”.
But we cannot expect too much at a price of $38. Maybe, we are too
excited and only continue to place order. After dinner, we then realize
we forget to order green vegetable.
Overall speaking, the food in
Chung Nam Hoi is quite stable. Before you place order, bear in mind to
have a look at those daily specials. Hot pot is also a popular choice
here. Though there is no need to have advance booking, it is always full
at the end of our dinner. One day, if you do not know where to dine,
Chung Nam Hoi may be your choice.
