"Zhen Jiang" Cold Pork $60 should be an item to evaluate the quality
of Shanghai food in our mind. The pork meat is of alluring reddish brown
color and not too salty. The ingredients match perfectly.
Fried Green Onion Cake $22 is served with no extra oil on the cake
surface. Inside the cake, there is plenty of juicy green onion. It is an
item of low price but high satisfaction level to us.
Fried
Minced Pork Dumpling $28 is one of the items in Shanghai cuisine we
like most. If you visit my blog regularly, you would notice we always
order this dumpling when we try Shanghai food. The dumpling of 2 inches
in diameter is slightly pan-fried on the base. Small portion of minced pork in the middle of dumpling is
juicy. It is suggested to order this dumping in your next visit.
The content is quite juicy. The dumplings are freshly pan-fried.

Irregularly,
we try Shanghai cuisine. Tonight, we arrive at Lao Shanghai Restaurant
after 2030; the restaurant is only 30% full. Maybe, because there are
not many diners, the service is very good and this gives us a leisure
feeling. The chefs of Hong Kong Lao Shanghai Restaurant are in fact from Shanghai Lao
Ching Hing Restaurant (the former restaurant in the same address).
We
are not too hungry, we order 4 dishes only, including “Cheng Kong” Cold
Pork $60, Mixed Meat & Cabbage in Bowl $76, Fried Green Onion Cake
$22, and Pan-fried Minced Pork Dumpling $28. The bill is $238 (average per head $120).
This
is the first time we try here and the foods are tasty and of high
quality. Waitress and manager are attentive and would refill water
regularly. Since we like Shanghai dim sum very much, we this time mainly
order 2 dumplings in order to fill up our desire.
Besides locals and Mainlanders, there are also foreign diners. To
conclude, it is not easy to find such restaurant supplying traditional
Shanghai foods of such high quality in Hong Kong. We would surely visit
Lao Shanghai again.
