Yunnan
Families is highly recommended by Yunnan local people and taxi drivers.
We finally decided to dine in Yunnan Families. We arrived at the
restaurant at 18:30 and selected a table for 4 at the back (No person
blocked our view to the stage) .
We ordered 7 different dishes, including “Yunnan noodle 罐罐米線”, “Steamed
rice 汽鍋飯”, “Yunnan boiled eggs 雲南十八怪, “Bean curd pot 建水豆腐煲”, “Fried
vegetable 醬爆龍爪菜RMB 12” , “Pig bone 馬幫一品骨”, “Fish and Pigeon Soup 佛光普照湯”.
Yunnan
noodle 罐罐米線(RMB6) is in very small bowl, it is a bit spicy, delicious
and without meat. Steamed rice 汽鍋飯(RMB5) is served and cooked in a
typical Yunnan small bowl (with a small hole in the middle). This rice is not plain rice, but some tastes are added.
Yunnan
boiled eggs 雲南十八怪(RMB16 / 4 pieces) is served and wrapped by dry
grasses when it is served to us. The egg content is taken out. Egg white
(no egg yolk) mixed with Jian Shui bean curd 建水豆腐(Jian
Shui is a place in Yunnan province and is famous for bean curd, RMB26)
are put back to an empty egg shell. The whole egg is steamed and then
fried in oil. This Yunnan boiled eggs 雲南十八怪is tasty but not very special in our mind.
We
have ordered 2 pieces of Pig bone 馬幫一品骨(RMB8 each). They are served
upright on a plate. The bones with meat intact are cooked in soya sauce
for a long time. Drinking straw is given to drink the delicious bone
marrow ( but it is quite fatty. Be careful!). The eating method of this bone is
a bit special in the meal, but it is also available in Hong Kong .
Fish and Pigeon Soup 佛光普照湯 (RMB88) is boiled and served in a big pot.
Taste is strong as fish, pigeon and Pu-erh tealeaves are boiled for a
long time. RMB88 per pot is very expensive in Kunming .
The
total bill is RMB179 (ie RMB45 per head). It should not be cheap in
Kunming standard. In such a price, we can try different typical Yunnan
foods; it is considered money for value. In addition, in dinnertime, out
of our expectation,
there is stage performance from 18:50 onwards, for a period of about
1.5 hours. The performance includes singing, dancing, calligraphy, and
playing time with guests. One more thing to mention is the Yunnan style
decoration in the whole restaurant, which enables you to enjoy Yunnan culture more. Yunnan Families is highly recommended , especially for non-Yunnan people.
