Fish skin is very chewy, its taste would be enhanced by dipping soya
sauce and sesame oil. This is a recommended dish.
Congee
of Fish Belly and Fish Swim Bladder is priced over $30. Congee
presentation is not attractive. Belly and Swim Bladder are fresh enough,
there is no fishiness. Congee texture is above average, no beancurd
sheet or cornstarch have been added. We originally expect it should be a tasty congee, but the result turns out not so.
Congee
of Fish Backbone and Pig Liver is of similar presentation. Freshness of
fish backbone and pig liver is average only, so is the overall comment
on congee. A main demerit is that msg has been added to congee. If msg
is added, it is not worthwhile to pay over $30 for a bowl of congee.
Sun Hing Chan Congee is quite welcome by the locals in Jordan
district. It is nearly full and the diners seem to have visited many
times before. FYI, there is only one chef to prepare congee, patience is
needed.

There
are several restaurants in Jordan , serving congee. We select Sun Hing
Chan (SH) today afternoon, which is famous for serving congee with any
parts of a fish. SH claims to have about 40 years history. It can serve
about 30 diners at the same time. It is basically the decoration of local restaurant. Service can only get a recommended pass.
We
order cold fish skin and two bowls of congee, the bill is $72 (average
per head $36). Average spending is not high. But in view of congee
quality, it is a bit expensive. Congee base is not the type I like
most .
This can be improved if they wish. Cold fish skin is very tasty and
welcomed by most diners. Though it is quite crowded during lunchtime, I
am sorry that I cannot agree its congee is of recommended level. There
are many other good choices in Jordan anyway.
