Spicy & Salty Tofu is not oily and is slightly crispy on the
surface. It is soft inside. Though there are a lot of red pepper shreds
and garlic paste, it is not too spicy and this can only augment the
overall taste.

Fried White Spotted Rabbitfish is not included in the menu.

Steamed Grouper occupies nearly the whole plate. Though this grouper
is larger in size (about 4 catties), the meat is not old but tender and
chewy. Together with the soya sauce, the whole plate disappears shortly.

'Fried Grouper with Vegetable' is in a big portion. In such cooking,
it can only highlight the freshness and deliciousness of the grouper.

Pan-fried Oyster Cake is not oily too. It would be much better if there are more oysters, but it is already very good.

Soya Sauce Chicken (half bird, $120) should be a signature item in Chu
Kee. The chicken is fresh and the meat is bouncy. But it cannot attain
the best available quality, it can be better.

We
specially arrange a dinner in Apleichau Municipal Services Building .
It is an air-conditioned Dai Pai Dong with high ceiling, and is
therefore not so noisy. Chu Kee is full tonight. Before we place the
order, we notice diners of several tables are waiting for their food. We realize we have to wait for a long while
before our dishes can be served. Servers are all ladies. Each of them is
very busy, attentive service should not be anticipated.
We
order 6 dishes, beer and plain rice; the bill is HK$860 (average per head
$145). Two dishes of grouper are in fact from a tail of grouper at 4
catties. In the very beginning, we query whether we can finish such a big
fish. Finally we note that the size is just enough for us. We are
delighted all other dishes are not oily and this is not in our
expectation. In our mind, the dishes should be a bit oily when we dine
in Dai Pai Dong . Food taste is good and there is a well balance of seasonings. All are surely not salty.
This is for sure a value for money dinner in a Dai Pai Dong in
Apleichau. Though it is not easily accessible to most of us, we do
appreciate the arrangement of such a dinner. Chu Kee is in our
recommendation list.
