The cooking skill is highly appreciated. We seldom experience there is no surplus oil on and inside the cake. It is great!
Spring Onion Cake is relatively small in size, but we prefer this
smaller size, enabling us to eat more other items. It should be the
signature item of Wayat.
Xiao Long Bao can be ordered in four or eight pieces. Small amount of soup can be seen and found inside each dumpling.
Wonton
in Spicy Sauce is very alluring in appearance, it is in fact palatable
and not spicy at all. We can sense juicy minced pork inside the
dumpling. A pity is that the 'soap' flavour of the skin is a bit
prominent. If not , it would be top quality wonton in terms of taste and outlook.
Drunken
Chicken is of course from chilled chicken. Its texture is not too soft
as the meat of frozen chicken, but is quite bouncy and firm. Taste is
well-balanced. It would be more tasty if the wine flavour is a bit
stronger. Imho , drunken chicken is one of the dishes to prove whether an eatery is
authentic and shanghai enough. From this plate of drunken chicken, Wayat
passes with credit.
Shanghai
Noodle in Soup w/ Smoked Fish & Pork Chop is priced at twenty two
dollars only. Taste of soup is from Shanghai sauce only, we do not sense
that a large amount of msg has been added. We appreciate they serve
smoked fish and pork chop separately instead of on top of noodle and soup.
They are of above average quality, we would order again next time.

From
the outlook, it is an eatery I prefer not to patron. Anyway it does not
give me a motive to have a try. But because of intelligence, we would
still like to have a patron tonight. The restaurant is not dirty, but
its colour combination gives me such a not positive impression. We at any
rate do not find any greasy evidence on menu, table, chair, floor and
tableware. I am so sorry to have such a bias and give a premature
judgment on Wayat.
For
the sake of trying as many items as possible in a single patron, we
order xiao long bao, smoked fish, pork chop, drunken chicken, spicy
wonton, noodle and spring onion cake. We are lucky that all of them can
be served in small
portion. The average spending is a bit less than eighty. On the other
hand, each item is of above average quality. This is quite different
from our former impression before dining and toward the eatery. This is a
good example not to comment on others by the appearance only. It is for sure a meal of value for
money or much better than our anticipation. You are suggested to have a
try at night.
