Deep-fried Chicken in Shanghai Style (炸八塊)
There are
more than eight pieces on the plate. Chicken meat is bouncy and tender,
they have not been deep-fried for too long time. It is juicy inside and
crispy on the surface. Of course, chicken pieces have been marinated. In
addition, since spring onion and small amount of roasted salt are added
to deep-fried chicken, resulting that this chicken is more flavorful
and delectable.
Stewed Pork Cubes and Tofu Skin in Brown Sauce (紅燒肉百頁結)
This
dish is quite generous in portion. We really do not expect it is still
so generous portion in 2013. The sauce is dark brown in colour, but it
is definitely not too salty. From the above photos, you should be able
to realize how delicious the tofu skin and pork are. Baby bamboo pieces
are delicious too.
Spinach
Pan-fried Pork Dumpling (5 pieces) 生煎包
Needless to say, it is authentic and delectable, as the stuffed pork is not too firm but it is still juicy.
Braised Fish w/ Bean Sheet (粉皮魚塊煲)
From
the brown colour, it is a typical Shanghai dish. Apart from several
large pieces of grass crap, it is cooked with with scallion and
mushroom. Taste is authentic and fine. But the fresh meat is not fresh
enough, resulting that it is not bouncy (not bouncy enough). If not,
this is also a quality Shanghai dish.

We
are gratified to dine in Lao Shanghai again. At night, no matter
whether we visit on weekdays or weekends, it must be full and crowded.
It seems that it has more fans these years.
As usual, we would
like to try dishes that we have not yet tried before. Though we have not
ordered too many items in the meal, we did order fish, chicken, pork,
vegetable and pan-fried dumpling. We are so sorry except that the fish
is not fresh enough, all other dishes are served at high standard and we
enjoy all of them so much. Please remember that the chefs here serve
and cook dishes with Shanghai authenticity. We do not like some hybrid
dishes in other Shanghai restaurants. If we did try, we would like to
try those with the highest authenticity. Fusion dishes are not our cup
of tea at any rate.
