Wa San Mai Japanese Cuisine is a restaurant of modern Japanese interior.
Tempura
Set comes with 3 pieces of shrimp, small fish, cuttlefish, eggplant,
sweet potato and small green pepper. All ingredients are fresh (the
shrimps are fresh, naturally bouncy and large in size) and quite tasty.
But they can be improved by leaving less oil on the paper. The set is
served with miso soup, salad, steamed egg custard, pickles, dried small
fish, dessert and coffee.
Plain rice is of Japanese origin and above average quality, the quality can be improved further.

Today
I have an early lunch in Wa San Mai (WSM), which is a member of Sogo
Group. WSM occupies ~14,000 square feet and can accommodate ~200 diners
at the same time, which has a modern Japanese interior and is divided
into 3 dining areas, namely Teppanyaki, Shabu Shabu and Sashimi Sushi.
Servers are nice and attentive, they should have received professional
training.
A tempura lunch set is order, the bill is $152.
Basically, food materials are fresh and of good quality. Since there are
3 pieces of shrimp in the tempura set, it (takes time to prepare) takes
about 15 minutes before it is served and this is acceptable. Food taste
is quite good and non-Japanese ingredient is not found in the set.
In
lunchtime, it is extremely noisy , to an extent that it is nauseating.
One or two businesspersons keep on placing operational orders
(operational duty only! ) to their staff by phone consecutively for the
whole lunch, in a disgusting loud noise. This must be a point for your
consideration if you want to have leisure lunchtime in WSM. It should be
the noisiest Japanese restaurant in Hong Kong I have ever visited. For
Teppanyaki, the situation may be different.
