Ramen in Miso Soup with pan-fried dumplings (5 pieces) $80 is rich in green onion and seaweed. Cha Siu can be seen behind green onion.

Pan-fried dumplings are good in shape, slightly pan-fried and not oily.

Ramen in Miso Soup with deep-fried chicken (5 pieces) $80. There are 3 pieces of cha siu in this bowl.

Deep-fried chicken is juicy in side, it would be more tasty to eat with the sauce on the right.  In fact, the meal set portion is not small, an OL should not be able to finish under normal  circumstances.

Hakodate Japanese Restaurant is well known for its Japanese ramen for a long time on Hong Kong Island. I only know it is always crowded, particularly during lunchtime and dinnertime. For famous ramen, the soup base must be one of most important ingredients. In fact, in Hong Kong, it is not too easy to find a Japanese restaurant serving ramen with no msg soup base.

In lunchtime, it is of course full house, we are allocated to the bar table with high chair. We order 2 meal sets (a ramen with a snack). The bill is $176 (average per head $88). Originally, we are not too willing to sit on the high table as it gives us a not comfortable feeling. In view of the waiting time of about 20 minutes I guess, we finally accept and think that it is only a lunch of at most 30 minutes. It turns out that sitting on the high chair in fact allows us to see how the ramen is processed before it is serving to us.

Soup base is tasty and is the typical Japanese flavor we are looking for. It is of course not those pretend-to-be localized non-Japanese Japanese ramen. Ramen is al dente and has not been over-boiled, as there is a timer to control the cooking time. The snacks are of good quality as well. Hakodate is still a ramen restaurant of serving high quality ramen after its relocation to this new address from Westlands Road Taikoo. No msg should have been added to the soup, as we do not feel thirsty thereafter.

Up till now, you can guess what my comment to Hadodate will be. Yes, it is the best available Japanese Ramen restaurant ever tried in Hong Kong. It is even better in taste (particularly the soup base) than Sapporo Japanese Restaurant in Central Exchange Square http://hk.myblog.yahoo.com/Deli-Prince/article?mid=1471. Please advise and comment if I am wrong. If you have time and do not mind queuing up, please visit Hakodate and enjoy its tasty typical Japanese ramen. One more point to say, apart from ramen, there are also curry rice and other deep fried items.
