Originally we plan to visit the Yuen Yuen Institute http://www.yuenyuen.org.hk/non-flash/ch2/ch2.htmin Tsuen Wan, but a friend said the vegetarian food in Yuen Yuen is not of high quality recently, we finally change to Fung Ying See Koon (FYSK).
FYSK is a place of Taoism, established in 1929. It is a place very close to KCR Station and we can spend an afternoon of several hours in such a relaxing place. To try its vegetarian food is of course the main reason for us to select FYSK.
The vegetarian kitchen is quite big and can accommodate about 300 diners at the same time. The layout is a canteen style food hall; no beautiful decoration should be expected. Even so, tables are not aligned very close. It can anyway give us a feeling of neat, tidy and comfortable. Servers are courteous. Apart from the dishes in menu, there are meal sets for different numbers of diners, from 2 to 12 persons. Average price is about $60 per head, no matter which meal set you select.
We select the meal set for 2 and an extra vegetarian platter. The bill is $143 (average per head $48). Overall food portion is large, in view of price. Food is not exceptional tasty, this implies large portion of MSG has not been added to the food. When we ask the cashier (a man) whether MSG has been added to the food. He hesitates for a while and answer small amount of MSG has been added. We appreciate his frank reply. Maybe, he is not in the position to tell lie in a place of Taoism. (Sorry for asking him such embarrassing question.)
Foods are hot and no extra oil has been added. We do appreciate the attitude in cooking vegetarian foods. It is recommended for your next try.
