Shredded Vegetables w/ Meat in Sesame Sauce $168 should be a signature Shandong dish. It has to be ordered in advance and is served in cold. The appearance is alluring and we have never seen and tried such dish before. Only several pieces of such dish would be prepared daily. It is surely an item to show off the skill of chopping vegetables into slices in Shandong food. Today we have 10 persons; we can therefore order this special dish to share and experience. Bean vermicelli is placed at the bottom, other ingredients include green cucumber, carrot, egg, black fungus, pork and shredded dried scallop. In view of taste, it is not too special and anyway is a good attempt.
Fried Vegetarian Rolls Smoked with Jasmine Leaf $45 is chopped into 6 small pieces. The rolls have been smoked and with a nice flavor of jasmine leaf.
Steamed Pork with Garlic Mash $50. The garlic mash has not yet been cooked. Spicy soy sauce is added to steamed sliced pork. Bean vermicelli is placed at the bottom. It is quite tasty.
Shandong Roasted Chicken in Sauce (whole bird) $168. Soy sauce is added to the meat, which is torn to pieces. We do not see the main taste difference between this chicken from others, except that the skin is not crispy. It is a bit overpriced.
Fried Shrimps in Spicy, Sweet & Sour Sauce $138 is not good in appearance and there are only several pieces of shrimp. Unluckily, the shrimps are not fresh enough.
Steamed Wonton in Spicy Sauce $28
Steamed Mutton Dumplings $72 is quite juicy and has a slight special flavor of mutton. It is not commonly available in Hong Kong.
Steamed Pork Dumplings
Fried Rice with Dried Scallop and Egg White $68 is quite good in outlook, not too oily and of average quality. Each piece of rice is in good shape.
Fried Red Bean Bun $96 comes with 8 big red bean buns of ~ 6cm in diameter. Small amount of Glucose powder is sifted on top of each hot bun. $12@ is quite expensive.
Deep-fried Silk Cake $24 is a signature dessert in Star of Shandong. Dough (prepared by mixing flour, sugar and oil) is pulled into silk-like shape, which is then rolled to form a cake. There is nothing inside each cake.

Star of Shandong started to operate in June 2007. Shandong cuisine is in fact one of the 4 main cuisines in Chinese cookery. Shandong is a coastal province near the Yellow Sea. Seafood, vegetable and poultry are therefore the main ingredients of food.
For the sake of maintaining taste originality and appearance in Hong Kong, in Star of Shandong, 2 chefs from Shandong province are in charge of dishes and noodles respectively. In the menu, there are not many dishes from Shandong. Most of them are in fact Shanghai food. Some items, particularly those Shandong dishes, are quite special to us, as we have never seen and tried them in Hong Kong.
We order 13 dishes (some items are not shown in the photos above), the bill is $1,300 (average per head $130). Food quality and taste are a bit above average. Service is an area to be improved. We are allotted to a VIP room, we therefore have privacy in the whole meal. We order a lot of dishes tonight and come to a complete ending after the meal.
