Ling Yan Monastery (靈隱寺), built in 1974, is situated at Tai O Road (near Tai O).  It attracts visitors as a sightseeing spot as well as a place to enjoy vegetarian cuisine. Ling Yan Monastery is not a place crowded with visitors, mainly because of its remote location. It is also because of this reason, it can still maintain serenity and calmness. On days of big celebrations up to 100 tables can be arranged to serve vegetarian dishes.

These Signs can be clearly seen at Tai O Road.

Ling Yan Monastery is not very large in size, but it is large enough to spend two hours for leisure and vegetarian meal.

It is the first time to visit Ling Yan Monastery, it is of course a nice and positive experience. Before the visit, I expect it may be similar to the Po Lin Monastery in appearance, though the size should be smaller. It is in fact very much smaller in size. The constructions are not so splendidly renovated. On the other hand, it does gives a natural and serene impression. It is suggested to visit in the morning and arrive at about 11:00, then have a vegetarian cuisine there. Totally two to three hours is expected to spend in Ling Yan Monastery. Thereafter it takes about 30 minutes to walk along Tai O Road to Tai O. You may then kill your time in Tai O, either to stroll around Tai O Town, or to have an afternoon tea at Tai O Heritage Hotel http://www.taioheritagehotel.com/eng/abthotel/location_map.jsp.
