Wing Lok Street is an old street in Sheung Wan. It connects Des Voeux Road Central (德輔道中) and Des Voeux Road West (德輔道西). Wing Lok in Chinese characters means 'forever happy', it is a good name.
Since Central, Sheung Wan and Sai Wan areas were first developed in Hong Kong, quite a lot of traditional businesses can be found here. For the wholesaling and retailing of dried seafood, abalone, shark fins and herbs, more than 60% of the shops are concentrated in Sheung Wan and Sai Wan. There is a picture that is not available in other districts in Hong Kong.
Besides the sellers of dried seafood, the buildings along Wing Lok Street are also old. Some of them have less than ten storeys. They are also special in outlook, in order to fit the special shape of the construction sites.
Apart from the neon light of 2010s, to walk around Wing
Lok Street now and in the past 40 years should be more or less similar, I
guess.
