Yaumatei Theatre has been an old theatre in Waterloo
Road, Kowloon, for more than eighty years. It is located at the junction
of Waterloo Road and Reclamation Street (新填地街).

Being a one storey construction, it was built in 1930. In 2014, it celebrates its eighty four years birthday.

It was classified as Grade II Historic Building by the government. It is the only remaining pre-World War II theatre construction in Kowloon.

For conserving this construction, the government spent money in the revitalization. After the renovation in July 2012, it is now a place for Cantonese opera, showing the support of the government for this traditional arts culture. It is theatre of 300 seats. Yaumatei Theatre is conveniently located, not far away from Yaumatei MTR Station.

Before the renovation, Yaumatei Theatre was a theatre showing grade III movies, i.e. sex movie. The audiences are mainly old men.
