Lek Yuen Estate is the first public housing estate in Shatin, New Territories.
It was built on the reclaimed land of Shatin Hoi (Shatin Sea).
The estate consists of 7 residential blocks completed in 1975. It has a history of 39 years in 2014.
All blocks are old slab type, i.e. elongated rectangular block. Totally, there are 3,200 residential units, of size ranging from 22.7 to 52.6 square meters.
Since it is the first public housing estate, at that time, the demand of public housing is not so keen. Each block is of less than twenty storeys. It is of course different from those newly constructed, they have about forty storeys.
In Lek Yuen Estate, there is shopping mall, community centre, retail shops, wet and dried food market.

Basic daily needs can be satisfied in the Estate. This is anyway the construction and planning about forty years before. Lek Yuen Estate
