Block 13 Ngau Jaap in North Point on its last day.


Block 13 has served Hong Kong for 39 years, the business was started as a trolley near the bus stop at Block 13 of former Chai Wan Estate, which was demolished in the 90s. It had four branches during its most prosperous period in Hong Kong.




It is widely reported in newspaper that Block 13 Ngau Jaap will have its last day of business in Hong Kong on 28 March 2014, because of increasing rental, increasing cost of food materials and shortage of labour. Proceed of the last day, without deducting all expenses, will be donated to Yan Chai Charitable Fund (仁濟慈善基金).



Ngau Jaap (Bovine offal, 牛雜) is cooked with 14 kinds of spice and preserved red beancurd in the traditional method for two hours, before it is ready to eat. Before that, there are numerous steps as well. It is said to be the authentic flavor of Guangdong Ngau Jaap. In 2014, pricing of Ngau Jaap is $10, $40 and $60. The owner Mr. Tong Kin Yip (湯建業) at the moment has no plan of starting a new Block 13 in Hong Kong. If you are fans of Block 13 or would like to savor again its Ngau Jaap, time will tell.
