Kat O (吉澳, Crooked Island, Kat O Chau, Kat O Island, not Kato) is an island of Hong Kong located at the north-east of the territory. It is very close to the Mainland China and from Kat O, we can overlook Yantian of Shen Zhen, PRC. The island is in the shape of reversed 'Z'. In 1950s, there were about 4,000 inhabitants on the island. There are not too many inhabitants now.

From Kat O, we can overlook Yantian of Shenzhen, the container port.

There is public transport only to Sha Tau Kok on irregular basis.

Basically there is no commercial activity on the island.

There are a Chinese restaurant serving group meals to tourists, and several stores selling soft drinks, snacks and dried seafood.

Kat O Square

On the island, there is a Tin Hau Temple.

It should have been newly renovated not long before (maybe, several years before).

There is fish farming near the shore.

For city dwellers like us, Kat O is of course a very nice place to visit, to experience the life of a small island, to see the structure of old houses (of more than 40 years history), and to escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.

This is a complimentary dumpling. The surface is made from flour and a green plant juice. The stuffing is sweetened red bean paste.
