Adjacent
to Aberdeen Typhoon Shelter, it is Aberdeen Wholesale Fish Market
(香港仔魚類批發市場), operated by the Fish Marketing Organization (FMO). Aberdeen
Wholesale Fish Market is one of the fish wholesale markets and is the
largest fish market in Hong Kong . It should be regarded as Hong Kong Tsukiji. Other wholesale fish
markets in Hong Kong include Shau Kei Wan, Kwun Tong, Cheung Sha Wan,
Castle Peak, Tai Po and Sai Kung.
The wholesale market is a one-storey construction adjacent to the sea shore.
The wholesale fish market in Aberdeen is next to the pier of Jumbo Floating Restaurant.
Special plastic pants are commonly worn by workers. Besides, there is also black colour, as that in the photo below.
They use trolley for short distant delivery inside the wholesale market.
This is the shop of a fish wholesaler. There are many fibre water
tanks to store different kinds of seafood temporarily. The ground is
covered by water.
Seafood wholesalers and buyers will negotiate the price directly. The
price of respective seafood is determined by its quality, size, recent
supply and market demand. The seafood sold will be indicated by a
polyfoam sign bearing the name of the shop which the buyer represents.
It is a little bit late and there are not many traders in the market.
There are also clams of bigger size.
There
is a Souvenir Shop operated by the FMO for promoting local fisheries
industry. A variety of local premium fisheries products can be purchased
here.
