Built in the Ming Dynasty (1822), Ling Wan Monastery used to be known as “Ling Wan Practicing Hall” (凌雲靜室). It has a history of 193 years in 2015. It is said to be one of three oldest monasteries in Hong Kong, the others are Po Lin Monastery (寶蓮禪寺) and Castle Peak Monastery (青山禪院).
The monastery was built by TANG Hung-yee, the son of a prominent family of Kam Tin, for his mother to practice Buddhism. Outside the monastery, trees and flowers combine to create an idyllic picture. It was therefore originally a place of practicing by the prominent family.
