Lin Fa Kung was originally built in 1846. It assumed its present outlook in 1863 and was rebuilt by the Chinese Temples Committee in 1986.
Opening hours: 0800 - 1700 daily
Though the temple is small in size, it is unique structurally. The front part of the temple stands on a terrace supported by pillars of 10-12 feet in height. The rear part lies on a hugh rock which is now covered by the external wall. Part of the rock can be seen in the temple.
There are four festivals in the lunar year in honour of Guan Yin. They fall on the 19th day of the second, sixth, ninth and eleventh lunar months and these days correspond respectively to her birth, ordination, deification and assumption as a sea-goddess. Apart from these festive days, the temple is particularly busy during the Guan Yin Open Treasury on the 26th day of the first lunar month.
The temple also has fresco of dragons on the ceiling which is related to the annual fire dragon dance show http://blog.yahoo.com/deli-prince-club/articles/32931 that takes place in Tai Hang. During Mid-Autumn Festival, eye dotting of the fire dragon is carried out inside the temple before the dragon dance begins. Another unique sight of the temple is the hundreds of lotus lamps that are lighted in the chamber.
I
have never visited Lin Fa Kung in Tai Hang before. Special thanks
should be given to the Japanese restaurant opposite to Lin Fa Kung. If
not, I would miss this beautiful temple and the chance to know the
history of Lin Fa Kung and Tin Hau Temple. Lin Fa Kung should be quite
different from other Tin Hau Temples, in my observation. Though it is
small, it is more beautifully decorated. The red colour combination with
lighting inside the temple is particularly impressive. Lin Fa Kung
should have a lot of followers.
