Its
full name is Cattle Depot Artist Village (牛棚藝術村), located at 63 Ma Tau
Kok Road, Tokwawan, Kowloon, Hong Kong. The site was originally used as a
slaugherhouse from 1908 to 1999. It was renovated and developed into a village for artists in 2001.
The village is not assumed to open to the public. But you are allowed to visit and take photos, or to have a rest inside.
The depot was built in 1907-1907, in western architecture. There are five blocks of distinctive red-brick one-storey buildings.
No
matter whether it has undergone large scale renovation, the
construction is kept in good condition. This construction is needed to
keep, as a museum and other purposes.
All buidings are not the same in design. They have their own characters.
This is another slaughterhouse, which has not been renovated for demonstration.
Not many artistic works are displaying, it is anyway not a show. It is only a place for artists, as office and others. Imho, the overall village is already very artistic.
You are recommended to visit this cattle depot in Tokwawan, if time allows. The construction is of course not commonly found in Hong Kong. You may treat the whole depot as an art work, to admire the construction, colour combination and design. The red bricks are particularly impressive.
